“It’s Hard to Believe This 343-Acre Quarry Was Here All Along!”
One of Yorktown’s best-kept secrets
Hike Leader: Peter Meskin, Call or Text: 914-715-4068
Did you know that right here in Yorktown, we have the 2nd largest municipal park in Westchester? Opened in October of 1999, this former rock quarry is now a hikers’ paradise right in our midst. Mohegan Golden Granite from Sylvan Glen Park Preserve was used in many famous buildings and bridges throughout NYC, White Plains and Washington, D.C. There are currently fifteen marked trails of varying lengths. The quarry itself with its cut stones and abandoned equipment are all waiting for you to discover. Many new impressive educational signs. Expect some hills. Discover our own gem of a nature preserve.
Comfortable boots suggested. Rain cancels.
